a) BIOGRAPHY: John David was a soldier in Napoleon's army. In 1844, JohnDavid, his wife, their children, and his step-daughter came to America on a sailboat on which they had to prepare their own meals. After arriving in America, they traveled by wagon and boat to Illinois where they settled nead Sandwich. Three years later, they homesteaded land near Leland at $1.25 per acre. John David died in 1854 and was buried in Banzet Lutheran Cemetary near Somonauk, IL.
