Petrus Kastler

(lived circa 1420 - 1493)

Petrus (Peter) Kastler was a Roman-Catholic Priest from Langenau, which is only a few kilometers south of Asselfingen, in Southern Germany. Because of the close proximity to Asselfingen, I presume Petrus to be a relative of mine, and a member of the Schwäbische Alb Kastlers. In these entries, Petrus was presented as Minister of Thalfingen on July 15, 1455. Thalfingen is a small town just a few kilometers north-east of Ulm. You can click on the icon to see where Thalfingen is.

The image to the left is an epitaph of Petrus, which resides in the Klosterkirche Oberelchingen, which just outside of Ulm. This is certainly the oldest known image of a Schwäbische Alb Kastler, as well as any other Kastler clan. The picture was taken by genealogist Martin Kreder of Heidenheim, Germany. You can click on the image to go to the photo gallery and see a larger version. When I go to Germany in the summer of 2007, I plan to take a more defined picture of this incredible record of Petrus.

I found the following records on the website of the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstad (Catholic University at Eichstätt-Ingolstad). The six entries have been translated into English by a good friend of mine, excluding the small pieces of Latin.
